Showing up

Showing up for myself seems to be the hardest part. I don’t know why I get super annoyed when I get ready to go to the gym. It’s like the added layer of putting the kids to bed, then changing clothes to workout is just too much some days. When I’m changing, I try not to think too hard. I end up laughing at myself because I don’t even have to leave my house to workout with a gym in our condo. Once I start moving my body and using free weights, I naturally find a flow I forgot was always there. I find myself smiling after I complete the first set, and looking around for more ways to challenge myself. On this night my plan was to only do a short lifting routine for maybe 15-20 minutes. After my first two sets I started to feel strong again, and all my negative feelings from the day just washed away. This makes me consider a few things. I should always leave a pair of gym shorts and a ratty t-shirt out and visible when I get home. It will make things easier for me to change and already be committed to working out. Second, I should tell my husband my intention to get to the gym. He’s really a great hype man! When we used to lift together, he would really pump me up to push past my limits. He told me tonight my ‘guns’ were showing, which gave me a good belly laugh. I can also start smiling when I get to the door of the gym. There is always another person in there just trying to show up for themselves as we share space in the tiny condo gym. Lastly, I am going to show some gratitude. Thank you Nebulla for showing up, your presence is always welcome.
